Star Wars Battlefront II (SWBFII) fans were treated to a mild surprise yesterday. JetPack Cargo, the newest game mode introduced with Patch 1.2 is no longer available. DICE made it clear from the beginning that the game mode would be available only for a limited time. At the same time, nobody exactly knew how long the game mode would be available, hence the surprise.

In the rare occasion that you didn’t get a chance to play the game mode here are some more details about it. JetPack cargo is a “Capture The Flag” game mode with jetpacks. DICE had a similar mode in their original Battlefront. It requires you to capture the cargo from the other team and safely transport it back to your base. If you’re on the defending team, your goal is to stop the cargo carrier from reaching their destination.

Unlike other SWBFII game modes, all troopers get to use the same equipment and weapons. There are no star cards in JetPack cargo and units get to choose between two weapons. The SE-44C blaster pistol and the A280C blaster rifle. As the game mode name implies, all units are equipped with JetPacks.

JetPack Cargo is one of the fastest game modes of SWBFII. For the most part, most fans reacted positively to its release. Others asked DICE to make it a permanent feature in the game that’s constantly available. In turn, the studio hasn’t provided any indication of their intentions. They did highlight, however, that they will continue to listen to fan feedback and make adjustments to the game mode as needed.

Season 2 coming soon?

The moment fans realized that JetPack Cargo is gone, they started wondering about the game’s long-awaited second season. One assumption is that JetPack Cargo will only show up between seasons. Obviously, this remains as speculation and there isn’t any formal confirmation. It certainly makes us wonder if we’re getting closer to the release of new content. As DICE repeatedly stated, their primary focus is getting SWBFII’s progression system revamped. We must assume that new content should follow closely after that.
