The Star Wars Gaming Network (SWGN) is very happy to host another very talented artist who chose Star Wars Battlefront II (SWBFII) as their topic. They go by the nickname Hicox and their topics focus on Star Wars, the Marvel Universe and more. When SWBFII first came it caught their attention and they created the amazing piece below.
They were kind enough to sit down with us for an interview, in addition to sharing their art for this article. The SWGN, would like to thank Hicox for this interview.
Star Wars Battlefront II Fan Art Thursday: At ease Commander!
A word with the artist, Hicox
1. Can you give us a brief overview of your background and your past work?
I always loved to draw, of course, I always did it on paper, until I discovered digital art and I got interested in it. So I reached out to one of my favorite Digital Artists, Sr Pelo, looking for advice. He recommended me to get a Wacom Intuos tablet to begin with, and so I did, My “digital artist career” started in December 2016, of course, as you can imagine, my first digital drawings were trash but I have improved with time…I think.
2. What made you decide to create this particular Iden Versio piece?
I was extremely hyped for Battlefront 2 and it´s campaign, and I wanted to practice drawing female characters, so I decided to do something about it and draw Inferno Squad´s commander, besides, she looked like an amazing character. (Side note: I almost had a heart attack when Janina Gavankar liked the drawing on Twitter).
3. Can you please give us a brief overview of how you go about creating your work? What research do you do? What tools do you use?
Well, I mostly draw fictional characters, fanart for other artists I like and friends, so we could say the research I do is examining and analyzing who or what I´m going to draw and it´s characteristics; colors I can use and poses they could look good in, between others.
4. What was/is the most challenging aspect of your creating artwork like this?
In this case, it definitely has to be the droid, as you can see it looks kinda weird xD I would say it is because I´m not used to drawing machinery or robots/droids. The challenges come when I have to do something that I had never done before, or trying different tools, poses, techniques…you know, experimenting in general.
5. What is your experience with Star Wars games? Do you play SWBF2 and if so what do you like about it?
Oh boy! First of all, I have been a very big star wars fan since I have memory, and star wars games are a big reason why I love videogames nowadays. I still remember the first SW game I played was Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, and I was addicted to it! Some years later I discovered the original Battlefront 1 and 2…my life changed. At the time, they were the most impressive and amazing games I had seen (I was like 7 and they were the first games of that kind that I had discovered) during that time, classic Battlefront 2 became my favorite game. Well, through my whole life I have played a lot of different SW games, like The Force Unleashed, Rogue Squadron, Republic Commando, and more.
And yes! I do play SWBF2! Of course, I have my complains and disappointments, but I really like it! I love the story the campaign tells, the multiplayer modes, the gameplay and progression system, most of the maps, the classes and weapons. But most importantly, it is one of the (if not the best) best looking games, with amazing sound effects, and the thing I love the most is how it really makes you feel like you´re inside a Star Wars film!
6. Are there any other links you can share with us where fans can see your work?
Sure! I have some links I would really appreciate you to go and check out!
